I qualified in Medicine from what is now Imperial College Medical School in 1985. I went on to train in General Surgery and then ENT surgery mainly in London. I wrote my higher degree whilst working for Professor Sir Norman Williams, President of the Royal College of Surgeons. I became a Consultant ENT Surgeon specialising in the laser treatment and photodynamic therapy of Head and Neck Cancer in 1996, at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, a regional centre, where I headed the Head and Neck cancer group. I retired early in 2017 to pursue my other interests in more general ENT, bookwriting, research and medicolegal work.
